How Black Mold Can Harm Your Health

Nearly every individual out there has their story to tell about their experience with black mold. If you have not had an experience with it yet, then you are lucky. Like any mold, it is a fungus that grows in a clump, generally in a wet area and it will ultimately spread to other areas. It can be found in the bathroom, basement or anywhere that you have a leak or wet area. It may look harmless, but the truth is that there are several health risks associated with it.  The following is some of the black mold health risks you should know about.

The most important concern is that, if you have it, you need to take steps to get rid of it right away and you must do it properly. Whatever you do, it has to be eliminated because the spores will spread through the air which can lead to health issues when you breathe it in. Seniors and infants are more prone to getting various issues from it – however, other members of the family can also have problems.

There are several ways that this mold can infect an individual. Touching the area with your bare hands can cause the spores to be consumed or inhaled. Dislodging the spores can cause it to spread in your house.

Black mold can cause a lot of health difficulties especially in the respiratory tract.  It has also contributed to illnesses such as asthma and bronchitis. The problems that can arise are dependant on the individual and how much they have been exposed.

Common symptoms caused by black mold would be headache, nausea, skin rash and respiratory irritation. You may also suffer from a runny nose, watery eyes, sneezing and throat irritation after being exposed.

The very old, very young and sick are at greater risk of getting new health issues due to being exposed to mold. If you or your family members suffer from these symptoms, you should check your home for black mold. Begin with those areas that are not well-ventilated, like your basement and attic.

If you don't have a large problem, then you can remove black mold yourself.  You can eliminate it simply by using bleach and water and also by using white vinegar. Always remove it wet. Also, installing an air purifier in your home will help keep mold from spreading.
