Vornado AQS 500 and Pet Allergies
This article tugs at me in a special way. Recently I lost a pet.
As unfortunate as it is, frequently our animals get sick in ways where they can't be cured. I experienced this with the loss of my wonderful little dog.
Pet ownership in the United States has never been more popular. Despite what is going on a 5-year economic downturn, people are still adding pets to the family to replace a deceased friend, becoming first time owners or even adding on with multiple pets.
The industry to sell things to pet owners is a multi-billion annual revenue generator. One of the intriguing sub-aspects of the pet boom is that people also spend big on ways to try to alleviate the cleaning issues pets create in the home.
Carpet cleaners, pet deodorizers and general wear and tear removal for things like stains are the second largest aspect of the pet market behind food.
One aspect of pet ownership that many animal lovers acknowledge to be a downside is the existence of the pet “smell” in the home of dog and cat owners. This brings with it the issue of allergens in the air from the pet.
The home air purifier market has sought to advance technology to a point where it could counteract the smell and allergy issues created by our furry friends. Vornado AQS 500 is an air purifier that specifically advertises an ability to control pet dander and allergens.
Vornado AQS 500 takes special technology (known as "vortex" circulation) to effectively purify air in rooms as large as 300-plus square feet. Vornado AQS 500 also features electro static grabbing properties to naturally grab pre-charged impurities in the air.
This seeks to use the electric charges in existence in all foreign objects in our air to more effectively pull them through the filtration process.
So how does Vornado AQS 500 do with pet odor and pet driven allergens?
This review on Home Depot’s customer site stood out on the topic. It is from purchaser named Jazz. He noted:
“I got this purifier because my girlfriend is allergic to dogs. I have an Akita lab mix so he's an 80lb dog. I put this in my bedroom by the door where he sleeps at and this thing has worked like a charm. The only thing now is I wish I had one in every room.”
The area of smell removal is a little more complicated. Generally speaking effective air purification means also effective odor removal. However, this is not true in all cases.
Many times odors are a byproduct of impurities or substances that air purifiers alone won’t solve. One reviewer on Home Depot attacked a particularly bad must smell with a second unit and got results.
It may also be necessary to do a thorough scrubbing of furniture or upholstery in tandem with purification efforts.
